Gap analysis
AI/ML skill gap analysis: find the gap you did not know to look for
A ranked map of what your preparation has not covered — built from a conversation, not a checklist you fill in about yourself.

You cannot self-assess a blind spot. That is what makes it blind.
Every skill-gap checklist has the same structural flaw: you rate yourself against a list of topics you already know exist. The gaps that cost you an offer are the ones missing from your own list — the concept you never thought to review because you did not know it sat on the critical path. Finding those requires something external that probes past the boundary of what you thought to prepare.
Fifteen minutes later, you have three things.
- A map of what was actually checked
- A gap traced back to what you said
- One thing to study tonight
The gap map, ranked
The output orders what it found by leverage rather than listing everything at once. One concept sits at the top with the reasoning behind it. That constraint is intentional: a twelve-item gap list is a way of avoiding the harder question of which one matters most tonight.
- Areas explained clearly, marked and left alone
- Areas where the explanation ran out, with the evidence
- Areas not yet tested, labelled as such rather than assumed weak
Gaps are traced, not asserted
A gap claim without a basis is an opinion. Each one on the result page shows the reasoning that produced it — a derived statement about what the session observed. If it does not hold up, you can dispute it.
Coverage grows across sessions
A single fifteen-minute session cannot test an entire role, and the map does not pretend otherwise. Untested ground stays visibly untested, and later sessions extend coverage rather than overwriting what earlier evidence established.
Nothing to install. Talk it through, keep the map.
Before you start
- How is this different from rating my own skills against a list?
- Self-rating can only cover topics you already know to include. The diagnostic probes adaptively, so it reaches concepts you would not have put on your own list — which is where the gaps that actually matter tend to be.
- Does it tell me everything I am missing?
- No, and it will not claim to. It reports what this session tested, marks the rest as not yet tested, and ranks one gap as the highest-leverage next step.
- Which roles does the gap map cover?
- It maps ML, LLM, Applied AI, AI infrastructure, and MLOps engineering. Gaps beyond those areas go unanalysed for a simple reason: the diagnostic gathered no evidence about them, and an analysis without evidence is invention.
- Does the analysis cost anything?
- Not to run the first one. 15 minutes per account renew weekly with no card, producing one gap map. Mapping more frequently than that is $29 a month on the Individual plan.
